Today was my longest distance day so far, and also had significant climbing.
I enjoyed a mid-day stop in Prineville where I enjoyed lunch and a milkshake in the city park as well as a siesta and a break from the intense sun.
As I follow the Oregon trail I see many parallels between Oregon Trail pioneers and today's technology pioneers. Whether pushing the frontiers geographically or for quantum computing, attributes such as courage, perseverance, faith, frugality, and friendships are necessary but insufficient for success. Only a few will strike gold and most start-ups perish along the way.
Boldness, strength, and vision are essential to all who succeed, yet they don't guarantee success. Elements like storms (meteorological or financial), the landscape (mountains, rivers, or competitors), resource availability (food, water, and capital), and timing are largely a matter of physics and are outside factors can only be navigated at the cost of significant time and resources, not controlled.
What attributes do you value most when pushing new frontiers?
