From Portland, I took a county bus out to Tillamook, Oregon where I picked up my bicycle. I then travelled 24 miles to the coast. In Pacific City, dipped Ebonezy into the Pacific Ocean to formally begin the Pacific-to-Atlantic adventure. Watching the waves crash into the impressive rock formation made me think about this quote:
"I've learned to kiss the waves that throw me against the Rock of Ages." ~Charles Spurgeon
I've already had a few waves. My cargo rack frame was cracked and unstable after shipping. After a few repairs, it didn't seem safe, so I changed plans. The only trailer available was one designed for dogs, so I bought it, loaded up my gear, and set off on the journey. (See photo below.)
The ride was short (as planned) and it rained most of the time. The brakes worked fine even in the wet conditions. I cool air at 15-20 mph, coupled with the rain, meant I was shivering by the time I arrived at the campground. I arrived just in time to set up my tent before dark and hop in the hot tub to warm up (yes, it was a fancy campground that cost more than most of the motels I've stayed in!).
I hope to get better at kissing waves during this journey while growing closer to the Rock of Ages. Will you share a recent experience when you kissed a wave in the comments below?
