Route Map showing Day 02 of the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail, Pacific City to Corvalis Oregon

After a brief ride along the coast, the route turned inland and became rolling hills. While I plan to increase my miles to 100+ per day during the journey, I'm ramping into the ride slowly to allow my body to adapt to the saddle and to the higher level of caloric needs.

Today's insight results from being showered by rocks a few times along the highway. Like a bicycle ride, life throws rocks at us from time-to-time. While we can brush off temporary discomfort, some injuries require long-term adaptations to physical and mental routines. The wisdom, expertise, and experience of a coach or counselor can help us sort through how serious the situation is and what can or should be done about it.

Also, thanks for your patience with the video sound quality. Today I learned that filming in front of fountains, though beautiful, does not lend itself to good audio recording quality! 🎤

Making memories
  • I'm thankful my friend Gwen encouraged me to sit at the bar any time I enjoy a meal at a restaurant during this trip. Tonight I had the pleasure of meeting Miles during his first week after relocating to Corvallis, learning about ecotourism, getting a great book recommendation (Reinventure: How Travel Adventure Can Change Your Life by Carol Patterson, and a connection to a U.S. Forest Service R&D expert working on advanced computing to mitigate wildfires.
  • I enjoyed breakfast on the beach--a cheesy gougère from Stimulus Coffee + Bakery. Dinner and local ale was a pleasure at Murphy's on the River.
  • I enjoyed wild blackberries alongside the road today. I marveled at the variety of trees and cool grass at Sarah Helmick State Park where I ate lunch and took a mid-day siesta.
