Route Map showing Day 09 of the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail, Austin Junction to Baker City Oregon

Today I experienced lots of ups and downs. I enjoyed both mountaintops and valleys, each unique in their own way. Yet the vast majority of the day was spent either pedaling hard to make it to that next summit, or managing a rapid descent that had me gripping my handlebars a little too tight to ensure that I maintained control of my bicycle on bumpy, curvy, two-lane roads.  That's a lot like life--a few mountaintops, a few valleys, but mostly a lot of hard work going up and down the hills!

Sometimes you just have to take the water buffalo by the horns and move forward. Here I am in Baker City with a veritable zoo of bronze sculptures of African animals.

Making memories
  • I enjoyed AJ's Corner Brick Bar & Grill so much that I went back a second time. The portions matched my enormous appetite.
