Route Map showing Day 34 of the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail, Pueblo Colorado to Ordway Colorado

I made it through the Rockies before snowfall...barely!

I awoke to snow on Pike's Peak this weekend. The fresh blanket of white snow reminded me that while winter is a season of dormancy, there are beautiful signs of hope that set the stage for new life in the spring.

I can't believe I'm already half way! I set out on the second half of the journey today

Here I am with the Mayor of Olney Springs, Dan "REO" Morin. We're in front of the town's All Veterans Memorial that he built with a piece of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in DC. REO is a Marine Corps veteran and served as an Army machine gunner during the Vietnam War. Thanks for your service, Dan, and all veterans in Olney Springs!

Making memories
  • Thanks to Tom and Carol for their hospitality at the charming and historic Hotel Ordway.
  • I almost ran over a big, fat, hairy tarantula on road today!
  • For the last hour of my ride today, I partial rainbow brightened the sky.
  • I met 4 other cyclists on the same route as me today. Jordan, Kellie, Julie, and Mike are all traveling together. They started in San Francisco, joined the same route as me in Pueblo, and will continue on the TransAm to Norfolk. They live only a few miles from me near the nation's capital and all work for the government as well.
  • Special thanks to David and Lori for their hospitality for a few days of rest before I begin the second half of my journey. Thanks also to Mel for making time for a hello, hug, and encouragement as she recently retired (congrats!) and moved back to Colorado.
  • Thanks to lead mechanic Janet and the service team at Great Divide Ski, Bike, & Hike in Pueblo, Colorado for working me into their busy schedule. My new cassette, chain, rear tire, and derailleur cable worked wonderfully.
